About

Orange County's Best Climbing Gym

The ROCKREATION Legacy

Rockreation has been a local resource for the climbing community for training and education for over twenty years. Within our walls we have grown as the sport of rock climbing developed from a little-known activity to an internationally appreciated sport for kids and adults enjoyed at various levels of difficulty. We’re proud to be part of rock climbing roots in California and aim to incorporate our members into the rich history of climbing by giving them everything they need to thrive in this amazing sport.

Evolving Facility

To keep up with the demands of the ever-growing climbing community, we strive to keep our facility up-to-date whether that means newer and better cross-training equipment, new walls and auto-belays, various offerings in fitness and yoga or different and unique styles of route setting. We try to give our members something new to explore and a community in which they feel comfortable pushing their boundaries with all the right tools to train safely and effectively.

Experienced Staff

Our staff is comprised of climbers first – climbers who are motivated in providing a safe, fun and educational community that inspires others to become a part of the rock climbing legacy of California. They have a wide range of abilities across all disciplines and boast real-world climbing experience from all over the world. Many have learned the who, what, where, why and how of the climbing world through years of practice, training and torn cuticles. Want to know about climbing? Just ask. They love talking about it!

meet our team

Alan Aguirre

General Manager, CM

Alan started climbing at Rockreation in 2008. He was so psyched on the environment and the camaraderie of the gym that he decided to join the team. In a few years, he has run the gamut, from stripping walls, teaching classes, coaching the Youth Team, working desk checking people in, birthday parties and events. So if you have questions about anything, he’s your guy. Since taking on the role of GM, Alan has found the perfect excuse to never leave the gym. Seriously. So the next time you see him, tell him to GO HOME. But whatever you do, don’t mess with his orange fanny pack.

Anthony Damon Tarascio (ADT)

Head Setter, Head Coach Rock Warriors Competitive Team, CM

Anthony started climbing when he was just 10 years old. It was love at first boulder on-sight. Any day with good weather you can find him outside, typically bouldering at Black Mountain. Route establishing has always been the biggest driving force behind his passion for climbing and is what inspires him to set the kind of problems he delivers at Rockreation. If he is not outside climbing V12, he’s cooking up a five star, seven course meal (which he has yet to share in one of our potlucks!) or he is out on a romantic evening with his soulmate and climbing companion, Stanley the 10 pound terrier-mix who has claimed his heart.

Margy has worked at Rockreation since 1996 and was a member when the gym first opened in 1993. She has climbed extensively in the desert and mountain areas of Southern California as well as south eastern Utah and many other destinations in the western US. While roped, crag climbing is her favorite, she also enjoys Sierra mountaineering, big walls, scary sandstone towers, and long walks on the beach. Actually, she has no time for the beach because most of her time is spent at Rockreation climbing and making sure we are all in check. This “fixed nut” is here to stay!

Daniel began climbing in 2013 and has been excited to learn as much as he can about the climbing world. He started climbing at CSU, Fullerton where he also worked at the school’s rock wall. Daniel came to Rockreation to continue his growth in the sport. Since joining the team, he has developed as a climber, instructor, and camp leader. When Dan is not greeting people at the front desk or running around with our Rock Warriors or REACH camp kids, you will find him gallivanting somewhere outdoors- climbing, camping, or backpacking. Always a kid at heart, Big Walls are where Daniel’s dreams lie, and, in the meantime, he is helping our kids attain theirs.

Natalie Boustani

Strategy and Analytics Consultant, CM

First time Natalie ever climbed was in 2009 (took the OCC class!). The class required students to be in the gym once a week- Natalie was here Monday thru Sunday. Her passion for the sport and the community was instantaneous. She would come in and do the most boring part of the sport for hours- traverse- simply to improve her technique (and because she had no friends). Two months into the sport, she took her first real trip to Red Rocks where she fell in love with sport climbing. Since then, she has ventured into all other disciplines, except for ice climbing- she hates the cold and you will always find her in a sweater.

Blaine Eastcott

President

Blaine’s love of the outdoors is rooted in fond childhood memories of family camping trips. On one such trip, Blaine’s teenage self impulsively climbed a 100-foot rock only to soon find himself struck by panic high up on the rock face. He was paralyzed by fear, until a surge of adrenaline gave him the courage needed to scramble the final 10 feet. His passion for climbing has only grown since. He was a member at Rockreation for years before the owner at the time was looking to move away, and Blaine jumped at the opportunity. Since then, he has always run the business like a family. When he is not coaching his kids soccer team, you will find him at the gym working out with the staff and brainstorming new ideas to deliver an end product that is as strong as the community.
