Assistant Manager

Assistant Manager – Requirements and Responsibilities


The Assistant Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility, as well as helping to oversee program management, floor staff, instructors, and belayers. The assistant manager works alongside the General Manager and Corporate Management Team, and helps communicate and train new changes to the staff.

Management Hours: 25-30 hours/week

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Customer service experience
  • Excellent communication and strong problem resolution skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of personalities
  • Ability to supervise and enforce rules and regulations
  • Solid work ethic and ability to display good judgement
  • Good organization and follow-through skills
  • Be able to perform all floor staff functions
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends
  • Thorough knowledge of Rockreation policies and procedures, particularly regarding safety
  • 2-3 years management experience with employees
  • 3+ years of climbing experience (indoors or out)

Weekly Responsibilities:

  • Work with and help train all staff to implement policies and manage the smooth operations of the gym
  • Oversee all staff and delegate gym tasks as necessary; evaluate progress
  • Manage customer, member, and billing complaints
  • Membership contract review
  • Other operational duties as necessary

Management Responsibilities:

  • Help interview, hire, and train new staff
  • Develop current staff
  • Oversee floor staff, instructors, and belayers, and give periodic performance reviews (with GM & HR Manager)
  • Ability to open/close the facility

Desk/Floor Staff

Desk/Floor Staff


The Desk Staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service, communicating gym policies and procedures to all clientele, and ensuring that all policies are being enforced.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Hours:

  • This is a part-time position.
  • 12-20 hours per week
  • 2-3 desk shifts per week (2 weekday shifts M-F, 2 weekend shifts per month)

Qualification Requirements:

  • Friendly and enthusiastic.
  • Customer service and sales experience.
  • Excellent communication and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
  • Knowledge of indoor climbing procedures and practices.
  • Previous climbing gym work experience (and use of Rock Gym Pro preferred).
  • Ability to supervise facility, follow and enforce rules and regulations.
  • Display good judgement.
  • Must be a competent climber.
  • Ability to teach beginners.
  • Ability to work with children.
  • Ability to work some evenings/weekends.
  • Good administrative skills and ability to enter and review membership contracts.
  • Punctual, dependable, and reliable.
  • 2+ years of climbing experience (indoors or out).

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Communicate policies, procedures and safety requirements, and enforce all gym policies.
  • Monitor TR climbing wall and boulder area to ensure safety of all climbers.
  • Risk management, safety, and floor supervision.
  • Provide general instruction on climbing techniques in a fun and engaging way during open hours and group events.
  • Give safety checks including all necessary documentation.
  • Explain climbing equipment, techniques, and safety methods.
  • Instruct climbing classes including basic belaying, lead climbing/belaying.
  • Maintain climbing equipment. Including, but not limited to: cleaning equipment, holds, ropes, route tags, etc.
  • Ability to open/close the facility.

Belay Staff

Belay Staff


Rockreation is now hiring belay staff for camps and on going events and programs. We are looking for several high energy, enthusiastic, friendly, patient, competent climbers who truly enjoy working with kids. Below are the full details.

Requirements and Responsibilities:

The Belay Staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service and overseeing guests/clientele as they participate in various climbing programs. This position is primarily responsible for working groups, parties, camps, film shoots, corporate and special events, as well as ensuring all Rockreation events are fun.

Hours:

  • This is a part-time position
  • Must have weekday and weekend availability (specifically some availability M-F 9am-1pm)
  • Minimum of 2-3 shifts/per week (16+ hours per month)
  • gym membership included if you meet minimum hours

Qualification Requirements:

  • Friendly and enthusiastic.
  • Punctual, dependable, and reliable.
  • Must enjoy working with children; previous paid experience working with kids of all ages a plus (i.e.; camp counselor, school groups, scout leader, etc.).
  • Team player.
  • Good work ethic and ability to display good judgement.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
  • Must be proficient in belaying; must pass Rockreation belay test.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.

  • Belaying for groups, parties, and special events; encouraging climbers to overcome fears and climb successfully.
  • Create and maintain a fun and inviting environment for guests and members.
  • Keep climbers active and engaged in fun/challenging activities, while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Interact with children, parents/guardians and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Ensure a safe, enjoyable operation by following and enforcing gym rules and regulations.
  • Ensure that events and activities begin and end on time.
  • Help set-up parties; general clean-up duties.
  • Communicate policies, procedures and safety requirements, and enforce gym rules.
  • Act as a role model to all kids during parties, camps, and Rock Warriors.
  • Lead kids and adults through a variety of climbing activities and games.
  • Follow and execute activities according to the gym’s pre-designed itinerary.

Youth Coach

YOUTH COACH


Rockreation is seeking several skilled and enthusiastic coaches for our growing Rockwarriors youth climbing programs. Coaches must love working with kids, enjoy teaching and have a desire to help young climbers get psyched on the sport. Coaches must have weekday afternoon and evening availability.

Requirements :

  • Significant experience climbing both indoors and outdoors with a thorough understanding of climbing technique.
  • Two years of climbing experience
  • Experience instructing rock climbing technique
  • Experience working with youth in a teaching/instruction capacity
  • Must enjoy working with youth
  • Must be available weekday afternoons
  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to creatively address issues.
  • Desire to build and grow with the Rockwarriors youth program.
  • Ability to create fun and challenging environment for youth of all ages to learn and gain skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coaching staff, team members, parents and gym staff.
  • Solid working knowledge of rope systems and safety systems.
  • Proven skills in group leadership.

Instructor Positions

Requirements and Responsibilities

The Instruction Staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service, communicating gym during your classes and even when you are climbing off the clock. Making sure you clearly communicate what we teach while still holding to our policies and procedures to all clientele, and ensuring that all policies are being enforced with regards to safety and gym rules.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Hours:

This is a part-time position.
2-4 instruction shifts per week (Possibly 2 weekday shifts M-F, Most needed 2-4 weekend shifts per month)
8-16 hours per week(Possibly more if opportunities arise for privates)

Qualification Requirements:

Friendly and enthusiastic.
Knowledge of teaching beginners how to belay in the current style.
Knowledge of climbing techniques and ability to modify others to help them learn them.
Customer service and ability to teach others.
Excellent communication and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
Knowledge of indoor climbing procedures and practices.
